WHITE WINE

CHARDONNAY: Full Bodied White is classified with tropical fruit, vanilla, and apple aromas. A buttery texture is a distinctive characteristic of the wine. Oak aging adds a pleasurable, toasty flavor to the wine. Recently, an over aging tend has caused some offerings to be heavy and dry. The grape has its origin from the famed White Burgundy of France. California appellations known for Chardonnay are Russian River, Dry Creek, Sonoma and Alexander Valleys, Southern Napa, Santa Barbara. The appellation known for producing the finest wine is Carneros in Sonoma County.

GEWÜRZTRAMINER: Medium Flavored Wine with an aroma of tangerine, peach, guava and a hint of flowers. Very limited in volume. Only 220 acres are planted in France and about the same in California. Gewürz in German means spice, and some believe it is a bit full for sipping, Variations of the wine cover the spectrum from dry to sweet. When Gewürztraminer is good, it is very good. It is another wine that tastes completely different with food.
 
PINOT GRIS / PINOT GRIGIO: Medium to Light Wine with floral aroma. Flavors of ripe apricot. The two names originate from the origin of France (Pinot Gris), and Italy (Pinot Grigio). The French version will typically age well, whereas the Italian version is meant to drink now. The best wines in America are found in the cooler climates of Oregon.
 
RIESLING: Medium Bodied Wine in the class of Chardonnay as an elegant wine. It has the emerge scents of apple, fresh flowers, peach, honey, apricot and melon. . It can range from very dry to very sweet. It is the finest grape of Germany. Originally grown by Monks along the Rhine River during the Middle Ages, the wine has grown in popularity around the world. Other labels include Johannesburg Riesling, Gray Riesling, Sylvaner, and Monterey Riesling. Santa Barbara and Santa Inez, California provide a smooth, nice style of the wine with a hint of acidity to wake the palate.

SAUVIGNON BLANC/FUMÉ BLANC: Full Bodied White with extremely aromatic overtones of gooseberry tangerine, and grapefruit. Characteristics are complemented by a palate of fine herbs, bell pepper, melon and green apples. Robert Mondovi introduced a variation of Sauvignon Blanc to remove the vegetable and herb stigma. He called it Fume Blanc. This new variation became the second most popular wine in America and the world. Most winemakers now blend both wines with Semillon and barrel age to produce more fruity and floral, less herbal and vegetable, wine.

RED WINE

CABERNET SAUVIGNON: Full Bodied Wine with overtones of black cherries, current, berries, and pepper, undertones of cedar, leather, smoke and spice. The palate includes flavors of vanilla, spice, and berry. On a par with Chardonnay in popularity, was considered the Granddad of red wines. With its roots from the famed Bordeaux, France, the wine is plays everyone favorite red wine tune. The typical long finish allows the beginner to enjoy a full bodied wine and the seasoned wine taster to bask in its opulence.

MERLOT: Full Bodied Wine similar to Cabernet Sauvignon in body and structure, but
slightly less refined. Merlot tends to be in a hurry to provide its opulent fruit and its tannins. Originally a blending wine, it became popular in the 90’s as stand alone varietal. Lately, the many variations of Merlot have cause consumers to move elsewhere.

ZINFANDEL: Full Bodied Wine pares well with BBQ outings and fine meat dishes. It has
the alluring aromas and flavors of ripe, black cherries, blackberries, black raspberries, licorice and spice. Many vines are hearty enough to age beyond a century. The fruit from these older vines tend to be less plentiful, but more concentrated and resilient making a large, full bodied wine boost it reputation. Origin is believed to be a member of the Italian Primitivo Family, but California has considered it their own since the mid 1800’s.

SYRAH: Full Bodied Wine highlighting smoke, spice, black cherry, mocha and cedar aroma. Tastes include dark fruit, prune / plum, coffee and chocolate. The grape of France's Rhône region, famous for Hermitage and Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Also very popular in Australia and California. It makes deep-colored, rich and peppery wines that are tannic in their youth, yet opulent and full of fruit as they age.

SANGIOVESE: Medium Bodied Wine with light, ripe fruit with a hint of floral. Italy's most popular red grape from the Tuscany region. The base component is form the well known, old world Chianti. Goes well with light meats and light pasta and pizza dishes.

PINOT NOIR: Medium Bodied Wine bursting with aromas and flavors of dried cherry, vanilla, cinnamon, and earth flavors of black raspberry and cherry, with hints of blueberry followed by subtle aromas of rose petals and spice. A wine that balances food across the white and red varietals. It will be happy with a slightly seasoned fish dish and a slightly seasoned meat dish. It also makes for an excellent tasting wine on its own. The finest California grown grapes come from Carneros and Russian River Valley, Sonoma County. The Willamette Valley in Oregon also produces an excellent varietal.
