The Sierra Foothills Appellation includes El Dorado, Amador, and Calaveras Counties. With a region boasting terrain of rolling hills , rich, red, "brick dust" dirt, warm summer days and cool summer evenings, the region produces some of the best red grape vineyards in California. The offerings include excellent Syrah, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, with the region’s true specialty being full-bodied Zinfandel and Barbera. The appellation is growing in popularity so quickly, some wineries sell out their entire harvest before the end of the year. Be prepared to buy young, full-bodied wine for early enjoyment or hold for a few years and allow them to age. The featured wineries are from the Shenandoah Valley in Amador County.
